Imagine yourself in the position of a nervous new student being facing crowds of supposedly “friendly” screaming upperclassmen stomping and cheering you on to bring you into their house. This was one of the many St. Mary’s traditions recently experienced by transfer students and members of this year’s freshmen class.

New Knights are blessed by the Knight

On August 24th, more than 450 students packed in the St. Mary’s gym for our house assembly and to welcome the Saint Mary’s Class of 2026. While waiting, The freshmen gathered outside preparing to come into the gym as a group to be welcomed by our upperclassmen. As the freshmen entered the building, we cheered and shouted with excitement,

Once inside, the new students received a blessing from our “Knight” (Mr. Grimm) who gave a wonderful speech to welcome them as the newest members of the St. Mary’s family.

“We welcome you into the Saint Mary’s family and empower you to live out the six virtues of a knight: Reverence, Studiousness, Obedience, Respect, Courtesy, and Loyalty,” he said.  “We trust you to fulfill the mission of Saint Mary’s High School, to know the Truth and love the Good.”
